Recent Developments and Trends in Ohio Tax Law Online Training
October 4, 2022 @ 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
On October 4, 2022 from 1:00-4:00 PM, Steve Dimengo, Richard Fry and Nathan Fulmer with Buckingham will discuss Recent Developments and Trends in Ohio Tax Law.
Following the passage of Ohio’s 2022 Budget Bill (H.B. 110), the evolution of economic nexus since South Dakota v. Wayfair, and other tax changes, Ohio taxpayers are faced with more challenges connected with business income, personal income, and sales and use taxes. This course will examine recent developments and trends in Ohio tax law and help taxpayers navigate compliance for Ohio commercial activity tax and Ohio sales tax. Additionally, the course will assist taxpayers whose business extends past Ohio’s borders by addressing multistate tax issues and trends including nexus, registration, and resolving historical exposure.
Attendees will receive helpful guidance on advising clients concerning:
1. Ohio’s personal income and pass-through entity tax changes, including newly passed SALT workaround and Business Income legislation;
2. Ohio Commercial Activity tax compliance and audit issues including sourcing of sales and useful exemptions; and
3. Ohio sales / use tax best practices and savings opportunities.
4. General multi-state tax matters that parallel the above.
This session will be recorded and shared with those who register afterwards but note that only those participating “live” in the Zoom event will be able to take advantage of the 3.0 hours of tax CPE.
Steve Dimengo
Steve is an Ohio tax attorney serving as the first call his clients make when faced with a tax challenge. The more complicated the challenge, the more he can help others. This includes representing the Cincinnati Reds before the Ohio Supreme Court to exempt their purchases of bobbleheads (and other promotional items) from Ohio sales/use tax. Typically, his clients own or manage a business. He works directly with clients to save them substantial amounts of money and resolve even their most complicated tax and general business issues. His clients think of him as their trusted advisor that, while valuable, is so hard to find. Steve concentrates his practice on Ohio sales, income and commercial activity taxes as well as transactions with federal tax implications. This includes comprehensive Ohio tax audits, appeals, and planning; sales of real property; and the acquisition/sale of businesses. He shares his knowledge through following and creating key developments, speaking, and writing to both legal and non-legal audiences. His expertise/experience helps him achieve the best possible results as efficiently as possible for each and every client.
Richard Fry
Richard is a business tax attorney who provides clients with trusted advice concerning significant transactions, tax planning, and difficult challenges encountered in their daily operations. His practice focuses on state and local tax compliance and controversies, including Ohio and multistate sales/use tax, commercial activity tax, and personal income tax issues, and in federal income tax controversies with the Internal Revenue Service. Additionally, because of his tax background, he often advises clients regarding the business and tax implications of commercial and real estate transactions. He takes pride in understanding his clients’ business needs and objectives so he can help them achieve their goals in the most beneficial, yet practical, manner. As the Former Chair of the Ohio State Bar Association Taxation Committee, he has been asked to present his opinion concerning tax laws and policy to Ohio legislatures. These opportunities have given him invaluable insight into the legislative process and the practical considerations that mold tax policy. Finally, Rich enjoys giving back and volunteering with several charitable organizations in Northeast Ohio. His involvement with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio and Stewart’s Caring Place has been particularly fulfilling.
